Speaking of the modern passing NFL, let’s talk about two of the premier pass catchers playing in the NFL today. In recent seasons, Tyreek Hill would probably be the first player most NFL fans would think of when asked to select a “speedster” wide receiver. Hill has routinely torched NFL secondaries and delivered some eye popping highlights directly to NFL film crews. However, the numbers suggest that a new player may be challenging Hill for the title of “fastest in the league”. Crouched low and ready to pounce is the second year wide receiver for the Cincinnati Bengals. The newest big cat in orange and black, Ja’Marr Chase.

When the Bengals picked Chase with their first pick last year, analysts initially questioned the front office’s decision. Chase quickly silenced the naysayers by looking nothing short of spectacular in his rookie season. Chase showcased rare speed and the ability to make plays after the catch while he torched NFL defenses to the tune of 1,444 receiving yards (averaging 18 yards per reception) and 13 touchdowns in 2021.

The Cheetah, Tyreek Hill, has been torturing defensive player callers for several seasons now. Last year was no different as Hill finished 3rd in receivers (behind Cooper Kupp and Davante Adams). But Tyreek’s last year with the Chiefs has some NFL fans thinking that his best days are behind him. The numbers tell us to not count the Cheetah out just yet. 1 game into the 2022 season, it looks like another typical year for Hill (8 receptions for 94 yards).

The battle for top speedster should take all season. Chase has elite deep threat ability and the ability to make plays after the catch. His unnatural speed gives him the best chance to catch and surpass Tyreek this season. We expect high flying stats from both of these elite level wide receivers all year long, with Chase finishing just slightly ahead of Hill by season’s end.

Whenever Hill or Chase line up this season, keep your eyes on your screen and try not to blink. We can guarantee two things regarding these wide receivers.

It’ll be over fast and you won’t want to miss it.
